GCC Regional Protocols and Conventions Regarding Environmental Impact Assessment



For GCC countries, “The general Environmental Law” was launched in 1997. It indicated in Article 4 & Article 8 the necessity of providing environmental impact assessment studies for projects that might have a negative impact on environment. 

In 1985 (Oman), GCC countries agreed on “The Environmental Impact Assessment for GCC countries”. The parties should take care of the environment by producing an EIA study as a part of the feasible study for the projects.

It has been over 30 years since the GCC countries agreed to conduct EIA studies for almost all industrial projects. When it happend,  pollution usually across the board of countries. Air, water, and land are common
